The Australian Death Studies Society is pleased to announce our first Annual Lecture and Annual General Meeting.
Annual Lecture: “The Work of the Dead in 21st Century America”
Professor Thomas W. Laqueur
Prof Laqueur is an American cultural historian, sexologist and writer. He is the winner of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation's 2007 Distinguished Achievement Award, and is currently the Helen Fawcett Distinguished Professor of History at the University of California, Berkeley. Laqueur was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2015.
Prof. Laqueur’s influential 2016 book, The Work of the Dead: A Cultural History of Mortal Remains (Princeton University Press) explored the meaning of human concern for mortal remains throughout history. Mosse Prize from the American Historical Association and the 2016 Gold Medal Winner in World History, from the Independent Publisher Book Awards.
